Team Fortress 2 on Ubuntu Linux

March 23, 2009

And now, I’ve got Team Fortress 2 running on Ubuntu Linux 8.1 using Wine 1.1.6.   I had to turn the graphics way down due to the fact that this is running on a Dell D620 Laptop.

The maxbox

the maxbox

The “maxbox” is my modded xbox. It has an X-ecutor 2 Pro chip and an 80GB hard drive. It has the lovely Xbox Media Center and tons of roms for my emulators, so it’s always a hit at parties (see: Family Fest). And it’s a must have for any geek like me. It’s a beautiful thing.

UT2k4 server

September 13, 2004

Unreal Tournament 2004I finally finished a Unreal Tournament 2004 install on my webserver. For a couple hours this evening, my webserver was hosting a 14 player Half-Life server and a 12 player UT2k4 server.

I wasn’t able to contact anyone I know with the game to test the lag factor. And I wasn’t able to join myself (no key). But I’m still amazed that my humble hardware (site) could even run the thing.

Civilization III

September 9, 2004

Civilization III Gold EditionSo, the three men of the house had a an outing on Monday to BestBuy and CircuitCity. Dave got some mobile headphones for editing on-the-go and maybe something else, I forgot. My dad got the game Civilization III Gold Edition. And, amazingly, I got home without making a single purchase.

I’ve only played the tutorial once, so I don’t have a really good feel for the game. But I think I llike it. It reminds me a tad bit of Conquest of the New World.

Server Enhanced

August 13, 2004

I did a little work on the TFC server I kicked on the other day. I could admin boxes ’till I’m blue in the face and I’d enjoy every moment of it. But I find getting a server populated with players to be the most dificult task. What’s the Catch-22? No one wants to join an empty server.
