Can’t touch this

August 21, 2007

It’s been too long since I’ve posted anything. But hear me out; I do have a lame excuse.

Wednesday evening, I went to church to check on the network. There was some difficulty printing. I found that the server needed reset and that the Xerox Phaser needs service. And I thought to myself, “Hmm… I wish I had a better place to work on the server.”

Thursday evening, Jesse, Kris and I began preparing a route for a cable run. We had decided to move the server from Henry’s office upstairs to a rack Jesse and I had installed downstairs behind the stage.

Friday evening, I finished preparing the route and pulled the network drop. I haven’t yet checked the length, but it was long. After the network was up and working, I began to cut holes in a wall for some other equipment. Unfortunately, I got carried away and sliced my finger. (more…)

Ministry vs Tent-Making

June 11, 2007

I spent nearly 27 hrs on a construction project at church over the weekend. I was so burned out, that I had to take Monday off work to recuperate. This recent experience brought to mind an entry in a “Spiritual Reflection Journal” that I had to keep for a class. Below is an excerpt from the entry for Monday, March 6, 2006.

In class, we’re learning that our Spiritual Passion defines the where for ministry, our Spiritual Gifts define the what, and our Personality defines the how. I know from experience that I have more energy, more motivation and more perseverance when working where I am passionate. But how is this experienced in the realm of ministry and divine guidance?

I am currently working a full-time job, participating in two ministries (with a commitment to a third, which starts in April) and occasionally taking on short-term projects. I feel stretched. I feel stressed.

I enjoy youth group on Friday nights, and I enjoy running the sound booth Sunday mornings. But at work, I feel tired. I occasionally have trouble concentrating. At home, I feel the stress of deadlines, from both work and ministry. My free time is limited and often snatched up by family or friends. I have little down time. Why is this?

If I were called into ministry, wouldn’t the Spirit fuel me for tent-making as well as ministry? How effective can I be if I always feel like I’m on the verge of burning out? Am I committing to too much? Or am I relying on myself rather than the Spirit?

Skate event at Rock Church

June 6, 2007

I just got back from a skate event at The Rock Church. I guess they’ve been using different events to draw in junior and senior high kids. This week, it was a skate event.

First thing you need is skaters, duh. Finesse, a local Christian skate crew, came out and gave us an amazing performance. The next thing you need is ramps, extra-duh. So, our Eternity Skate crew packed up one of our three wooden ramp sets and setup a small skate park indoors.

After the demos, the Finesse crew gave their testimonies. Then Pastor Mark presented the gospel presentation. I believe the estimate is that 15 hands went up.

I tried to shoot a bunch, but my flash batteries were dying, and my backups were already dead. 😦 A new “Skate event at Rock Church” set has been uploaded to Flickr, with event highlights (viewable to my friends only).

Knott’s Berry Farm

June 2, 2007

Today, my church’s youth group made a trip up to Knott’s Berry Farm.  We took 3 adults and 11 youth.  We had a fun time, and I’ve uploaded a few photos to Filckr, check ’em out!

Highlights now on Flickr!

March 27, 2007

3 photographers; 6 hours; 2,279 photos – Highlights now on Flickr!

Looking over the set, there’s more photos of the bands than the skaters.  So, I might add to the set later.

The bands were all amazing! We had performances from Your Favorite Band (photos), Safe Haven (photos) and Olivia (photos).

Eternity Skate

March 26, 2007

The event was awesome!  I don’t remember the official numbers.  Something like 120 skaters, 60 attending for the first time and 4 decisions.  The bands were awesome!!  And Channel 10 News sent out a camera man to film the event and interview some people.

BTW, I have 2,279 photos from the event.  So stay tuned… I’ll put some photos on Flickr soon as I can.

New Years

March 22, 2007

I just uploaded some New Years photos onto Flickr (link).  Better late than never, right?

Pranking Pastor Mark

March 18, 2007

It is half past midnight, and I just got home from doing this to Pastor Mark’s office.

That’s somewhere around 1,000 balloons. It took 7 of us about 3 hours to do. So much fun!

October 24, 2006

I’m thinking about going to India sometime in the next year. It’s not a country on my list of places to visit, but my church just sent 4 people over there for a short term mission trip, and they brought back an interesting report. (more…)

An Update on Life

August 30, 2006

Wait… What?!

Alright, so the last post was kinda lame. And because it’s been so very long since my last real post, I’ll give a short blurb on a few different areas of life….
