First Steps to a New Kitchen

On Nov 4th, Crisha took the frist steps towards creating our new kitchen: we removed a set of cabinets.

It took a bit of elbow grease to get these cabinets down.  Even after removing all of the screws, we were unable to yank the cabinets down.  I had to go back with a knife and cut through all of the layers of paint that were effectively gluing the cabinets to the walls and ceiling.

We’ll probably end up mounting the cabinets in the carport closet.  As for the wall behind where the cabinets came from.. we plan to open it up.

Open it up as in knock it down to connect with a family room?

Not completely down. We want to keep a peninsula-ish counter space. But structurally, we expect that we’ll need to keep a column to support the doorway. So, we’ll probably end up with a large glass-less window.
