Cabling Started, Work Stopped

November 17, 2009

Sunday, Crisha and I started running cable.  We had cable pulled for the first 3 rooms by the time Dan and Jesse joined us.  At the end of the day, we had pulled about 460 feet of CAT 5e.  We still have a few more drops to pull, but I’m not sure when we’ll get back to it.

I wasn’t feeling well on Monday.  So, I left work after being there about an hour.  I slept a bit, but I’m still not feeling 100%.  Today, Crisha is feeling pretty bad.  We think she may have strep throat and/or an ear infection.  She has a doctor’s appointment, later this morning.

Preping for Network

November 15, 2009

Yesterday, I got up at 7AM and went over to the house to scrape the popcorn off the hallway ceiling. Except for some hall cabinets (which we’ll eventually replace), this was the last of the popcorn!

In the afternoon, Dan and Jesse joined us. They mapped all of our power receptacles and lighting, while I shopped for network ports and whatnot at Home Depot (~$200 bill). After I got back, we retired an ancient ADT alarm system and pulled yards and yards of cable out of the attic.

The plan for today… get some new cable in the walls.

New Home

November 11, 2009

For those of you who have not heard, Crisha and I have bought our first home.

For those of you who have not seen it yet, photos are on Flickr: here.  (Disclaimer: these photos were taken during the home inspection.)

First Steps to a New Kitchen

November 11, 2009

On Nov 4th, Crisha took the frist steps towards creating our new kitchen: we removed a set of cabinets.

Photos are on Flickr: here

It took a bit of elbow grease to get these cabinets down.  Even after removing all of the screws, we were unable to yank the cabinets down.  I had to go back with a knife and cut through all of the layers of paint that were effectively gluing the cabinets to the walls and ceiling.

We’ll probably end up mounting the cabinets in the carport closet.  As for the wall behind where the cabinets came from.. we plan to open it up.

Popcorn Be Gone

November 11, 2009

I took off work today. Crisha and I scrapped the popcorn off of the dining room, family room and entry way.  Crisha also groomed the garden areas.  My deltoids are so very soar, and Crisha’s back is popping like mad. Tomorrow, will not be fun.  But, at least the we have a feeling of accomplishment, looking at our popcorn-less ceilings and improved gardens.
