Packet Loss

August 27, 2007

After dinner, I jumped online to upload about 20 photos from the bonfire event, Friday.  After two hours, I still hadn’t uploaded half of them.  I began to ping and traceroute the internet connection… Cox was giving me a 30% packet loss.

I jumped onto the live chat, and I could tell that I was dealing with a card flipping rookie. Such lousy service!

Current mood: petulant

Furious Balls

August 27, 2007

I played racquetball for 3 hours yesterday. It was fun! We had a pretty nice size group, too:
Sean, Chris, Justin, Kris, Jesse, Crisha and myself

On another note, Balls of Fury comes out Aug 29th!

New Lens

August 26, 2007

Last night, I bought a new lens for my digital SLR.  It is the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM.  This is the widest lens I could find for the crop sensor cameras.  I chose to expedite the shipping, and I’m hoping to see it Wednesday — the day before I leave for Canada.

You bunt, too!

It’s a silly name, but I like what I’m seeing.

I hosed my Gentoo install over the weekend.  No, it had nothing to do with he afore mentioned, finger incident.  I had tried to `emerge world`, but one of the 243 packages failed.  I had to power down the laptop Saturday morning and only turned it  on again tonight.  But apparently, the file system isn’t fully intact.

So… I decided to try this Ubuntu stuff that Jeremy’s been using at work.

One quick complaint… I did the “Desktop” install, rather than the “Server” install, as I wanted the additional desktop packages.  But I can’t seem to find the Apache/MySQL/PHP packages to install.  I can’t imagine that they would restrict those packages to the “Server” install, but… I haven’t found them yet.

Can’t touch this

August 21, 2007

It’s been too long since I’ve posted anything. But hear me out; I do have a lame excuse.

Wednesday evening, I went to church to check on the network. There was some difficulty printing. I found that the server needed reset and that the Xerox Phaser needs service. And I thought to myself, “Hmm… I wish I had a better place to work on the server.”

Thursday evening, Jesse, Kris and I began preparing a route for a cable run. We had decided to move the server from Henry’s office upstairs to a rack Jesse and I had installed downstairs behind the stage.

Friday evening, I finished preparing the route and pulled the network drop. I haven’t yet checked the length, but it was long. After the network was up and working, I began to cut holes in a wall for some other equipment. Unfortunately, I got carried away and sliced my finger. (more…)

Bike and Forth

August 13, 2007

Today, I biked to work and back.  But not like your thinking.  No, I didn’t bike to work before work, then bike home after work.  No, no.  That would make too much sense.

I left the house at 5pm to bike to PLNU.  I biked the near 17 miles in 1 hour, 15 minutes.  I found a shady spot and sat around for about a half hour.  Then began the return trip.  Final stats: 33.862 miles in 2 hours, 33 minutes.  Not my fastest avg speed, but it is now my longest distance.

And to be honest, I didn’t make it all the way home.  My quads started cramping up real bad, so I walked an additional mile before getting home.

Hear Again

August 6, 2007

After having no audio on my home computer for more than 6 months, I finally re-installed the audio drivers. 😉
