We all joke about Starbucks being around every corner… but believe it or not, they’ve even got one in the Forbidden City!  Check it out.

When you said Forbidden City I thought of La Jolla. A few years ago the people of La Jolla were fighting to keep Starbucks out of the Village / Cove area. Now there are three in close proximity.

Why do people hate Starbucks? I don’t get it. I don’t go there too often but when I do it’s nice. And if you hate the place then the solution is simple… Don’t go there and buy stuff. 🙂

Some people dislike Starbucks in touristy places like La Jolla Village because most of the other shops are botiques and they feel the atmosphere is degraded when speckled with corporate type stores that are a dime a dozen. Plus they tend to put cozy little mom and pop type coffee shops out of business. And those things take a chunk out of the tourist experience. The area becomes more and more like any other. Etc, etc.

I don’t really have a problem with Starbucks itself. But I do think it’s funny and interesting when you drive down a street and see one on every other block corner. Drive-through Starbucks also strike me as funny for some reason, but I’m not sure why, because drive through arent funny things.

BTW, have any of you been to Panera Bread ( Sudi & Lucy took me there. It’s sort of like Starbucks meets Einstein Bagels but more restaurant-style. Coffee, Sandwiches, Soup, Salads, Pastries, etc. It’s good.
