Memoirs of a Geisha

Memoirs of a GeishaI pre-ordered Memoirs of a Geisha from Amazon about a month ago. It arrived Monday. And I finally had time to see it today.

The acting was excellent. It had Ziyi Zhang, Michelle Yeoh and Ken Watanabe. While I’ll watch most any asian films, my family isn’t as interested… but my mom and even my film-critic brother liked it. It has an excellent storyline, good drama!

My only complaint would be that a Japanese sound track with English subtitles would have felt more authentic. But then again, it would have been more difficult to get certain people to watch it. I’m hoping to use this movie as an excuse to bring in more foreign films.

I picked it up yesterday when I left work. I plan on watching it tomorrow. I got a real kick out of the fact that it’s a Japanese story produced for Americans with Chinese acresses. I love Michelle Yeoh and Ken Watanabe though. Zhang Ziyi is great looking but everytime I see her I remember her saying that Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-Fat were very lucky to have gotten to work with her.

    Woah… she said that?!

Yeah.. I was thinking about that myself…. Japanese story with Chinese actresses. But then, I couldn’t come up with any big name Japanese actresses.
