Last night I added an album for “Church Activities” in my gallery and added the photos my cousin, Dan, took from Family Fest.

Building new server

October 9, 2004

I’m building myself a new server. Well, I’m using hardware newer than the current server and I’m getting a fresh install. This time around, I’m using Gentoo (building from stage1) instead of my favorite distro, Mandrake.

Victory!

October 7, 2004

I did it! Woot! I finally got Trac installed. What was the last fix?
`urpme swig-py; urpmi swig-devel`

Basically, I removed the python swig RPM, and installed the devel swig RPM. I wasn’t able to install the devel without removing python first because the devel includes the two files that are in python. No recompile needed. I simply re-ran my `trac-admin` command and it worked. Weee!

(Yes, I know it’s ugly. Give me time.)

Recent Downtime

October 5, 2004

My server was down for about a day. I found out about it when I got home and tried to get something off of my webserver. I simply forgot to restart Apache after compiling Subversion for the Nth time last night. (Apache must be restarted as Subversion adds modules to Apache)

I’ve been working ever so hard at getting Trac installed. I’ve been making steady progress untill this afternoon, when my efforts seem to have plateaued results. I’m now stuck at fixing this:

“ImportError: /usr/local/lib/libsvn_swig_py-1.so.0: undefined symbol: SWIG_Python_TypeQuery”

Family Fest

October 3, 2004

Last night my church held a Family Fest. I brought my wireless access point, laptop, xbox, and a few board games. My goodness, the xbox was popular. I had some coffee, at some cake, and played Cranium. That was the first time I’d played Cranium. I thought it was pretty fun. Mexican Train seemed to be popular. But I don’t really know how it’s played.

Overall, I had a great time. Looking forward to next one.

Compatability Conflicts

October 1, 2004

I’ve spent the last 7 hours almost constantly in front of my laptop trying to get various pieces of my puzzle to fit together. Alas, I am going to have to forfeit.

I haven’t tested my Subversion install yet. No, rather, I tried to make things more complicated. I recompiled Apache, PHP, and subversion today. I also added a few more ingredients to the stew: IMAP, Horde, and Chora. Of course, Chora requires Horde, and Horde requires IMAP (and a slew of other things, but only IMAP gave me trouble). Well, after hours of stress to get IMAP installed, and hours of stress attempting to get Horde installed, I find out that Horde isn’t compatable with PHP version 5. At all. Period. No exceptions.

GAH! I hate developers!

If I have time over the weekend, I’ll be recompiling PHP (maybe Apache) again to remove all the crud I put in there from the Horde prequisite list.
